The motors are pretty solid. Any turbo car, you will have to replace the turbo's eventually. Seals wear out and they will start to consume oil. The Z's turbos are a little more difficult than Toyota to change in that you will probably pull the motor. My Z has not been the most reliable, but it isn't the motor. It's other things, like electrical connections, air door motors (a real PITA to fix), camber (wasn't too hard). Most of the failures are due to age and are quite normal. Just seems that mine is hitting all of them. Brake master, clutch master, radiator, speed sensor, PS high pressure line, alternator, AC, Driveshaft, lifters, valve covers, syncros and a few more. This Z has been taken care of and has always run synthetic. The motor is smooth and runs strong. So, as a daily driver, you will need to work on it. I would not go near a beat Z (or any car for that matter), it just multiplies the problems. Marty
